The Blocks Between You And Your Goal | Self Improvement Blogs ...

Have you got a goal but you?re not following it? If that?s the case, why not? What?s stopping you? Maybe one of these reasons might seem familiar.

- There are so many details that I don?t know where to begin.

- I?m afraid that I might fail.

- I?m not clear on what my goal is. I can?t nail it down.

- I have so many options that I can?t make up my mind.

- The goal is so big that it overwhelms me.

- I just don?t have the time right now.

- I?m not sure if this is right for me.

So I?ve got a question for you.

Do you really want this goal? Or are you happy to let it be a fantasy: a delightful vision that you know you will never even reach for, far less reach?

If that?s so, all I can say is, ?Great dreaming and congratulations for all of the work you have just avoided.?

But if you really want this, if you are prepared to put in the time and funds and effort to achieve it, then let?s have a second look at the set of reasons for not pursuing it.

1. There are so many details that I don?t know where to start.
That?s what goal setting and goal planning are for: to deal with all of these details so that you?ll know precisely where to begin and what you have to do until you achieve your goal.

2. I?m afraid that I might fail.
Yes, you might. There aren?t any guarantees, but you have three alternatives:

a. Don?t begin. That way you will not fail. You also won?t succeed.

b. Begin by not bothering to plan. That could work, but it is doubtful.

c. Start by creating a solid goal, then create a sound plan. This is the best road to success.

3. There are so many options in my goal that I can?t make up my mind.
Then pick the ones that are most important to you. Goal setting means choosing the options that are right and setting the other ones aside for the moment.

4. I?m not clear on what my goal is.
The initial step in setting a goal is working out precisely where you are heading; to get truly clear on your goal.

5. The goal is so big that it overwhelms me.
Great. Me too. I have started many projects inundated by their difficulty and unsure of the proper way to begin. I have discovered that the best way to get going is to build a step by step plan to get there.

6. I just don?t have the time right now.
What you mean is that your goal is not as significant as any of the other activities on which you use your time. That is your choice: these are your priorities. When you want the goal, you will find the time.

7. I?m not sure if this is right for me.
This is a huge objection. Why would you work on something that you?re not sure about? We?ll have a look at this in another article.

In short , the simplest way to overcome whatever is between you and your goal is to do proper goal setting and sound goal planning. Develop a solid goal, and create the plan to get there.
